Lecturer and Students Investigated Over Cat Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven individuals, including a lecturer, students from Universiti Malaya (UM), and an animal rights advocate, are being questioned over cat deaths on the university premises.

City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa disclosed that a cat carcass, delivered by an activist on Dec 21, has been sent for veterinary examination.

Second Carcass Fuels Investigation

“On Dec 25, another carcass was discovered at UM’s Faculty of Sports and Exercise Science parking lot. Both cases are scheduled for autopsies on Dec 27,” he noted in his Dec 26 statement.

Animal Group Advocates for Expert Involvement

Kelab Kucing Malaysia, through its president Khalid Rashid, stressed the importance of a meticulous investigation, proposing the involvement of field specialists to ensure accurate conclusions.

Stray Dogs Identified as Culprits

Closed-circuit footage obtained on Dec 22 reportedly captured stray dogs attacking the cats, a finding later confirmed by the Department of Veterinary Services based on the injuries observed.
