A New Era of Travel Freedom
PETALING JAYA: The recently announced 30-day visa-free entry between Malaysia and China is set to transform tourism and economic ties. Malaysian Tourism Federation president Datuk Tan Kok Liang sees this policy as a game-changer.
Tan applauded the decision, which allows Malaysians to stay visa-free in China for up to 30 days, matching Malaysia’s offer to Chinese nationals. He emphasized that this extended duration encourages travelers to explore more, stay longer, and enjoy richer cultural experiences.
Economic Boost for Local Businesses
The policy will take effect on Nov 30, 2023, and continue until Dec 31, 2025. It promises to generate higher revenue for both nations through increased tourism spending. Local travel agencies are gearing up for the surge in demand by introducing customized 30-day travel packages.
“This creates a fantastic opportunity for travel operators to innovate and expand,” Tan said. “Both nations stand to benefit significantly from this collaboration.”
Expanding Opportunities for Entrepreneurs
Beyond tourism, the visa-free arrangement opens doors for Malaysian businesses to grow in China’s expansive markets. Tan encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage this window to build partnerships in industries like IT, construction, and manufacturing.
“This is a chance for Malaysian companies to thrive in China’s competitive markets,” he said. “We must act now to maximize these opportunities.”
Managing Long-Term Implications
Datuk Beh Hang Kong, director of the Malaysia Chinese Business Council, praised the policy as a reflection of mutual trust. He noted that the savings on visa fees alone will make cross-border travel more appealing.
While advocating for a permanent visa-free system, both Tan and Beh highlighted the need for proper oversight. “Effective monitoring is essential to prevent misuse of this arrangement,” Tan warned. “It’s crucial to maintain the positive outcomes we’re striving for.”
