KUALA LUMPUR: Nine individuals have been questioned by the police as part of the ongoing investigation into the latest bullying incident at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).
Details of the Statements
Kuala Lumpur’s police chief, Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, confirmed that the statements were taken from the 19-year-old victim and eight other individuals since the police report was filed on November 8.
“We are scheduled to take the statement of the accused, a senior cadet, later today at the Cheras police station. The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code,” Comm Rusdi explained in a statement on Monday, November 11.
Appeal for Calm and Patience
He urged the public not to jump to conclusions or engage in speculation.
“We encourage everyone to allow the police to carry out a full investigation into the matter,” he added.
The Incident and Injury Details
The latest case involves another reported incident of bullying that led to injury at UPNM.
The police report, filed on November 8 around 8:40 pm, stated that the victim, a first-year student, suffered injuries after a roll call on October 21.
“The victim, aged 19, reportedly fractured his ribs and spine after being stepped on by a third-year cadet. He is currently undergoing medical treatment,” Comm Rusdi said.
Minister’s Stance on Bullying
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin reiterated that any form of bullying will not be tolerated.
“Such incidents are unacceptable and harm the reputation of UPNM and other higher learning institutions. We will cooperate fully with the police as they continue their investigation,” he said.
