Malaysia Celebrates an End to the Dry Spell

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian diver Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohd Nazim has ended an 18-year medal drought for Malaysia at the World Junior Diving Championships.

Third-Place Finish in the 3m Springboard

Competing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the 18-year-old claimed bronze in the boy’s 3m springboard final (16-18 years) with a score of 506.75 points. Yan Xin from China secured gold with 546.60 points, while Isak Borslien of Norway earned silver with 508.35 points.

Yong Rui Jie’s Top-10 Effort

Fellow Malaysian diver Yong Rui Jie placed 10th in the event with 440.30 points.

A Strong Run Through Preliminaries

Nurqayyum’s impressive journey began in the preliminaries, where he ranked second with 479.30 points, following Yan Xin’s leading score of 524.85.

A Return to the Podium After 18 Years

This achievement ends Malaysia’s 18-year absence from the podium, last occupied by Bryan Nickson Lomas in 2006 when he won bronze in the boy’s 10m platform. Bryan also achieved gold in the 3m springboard at the 2004 edition in Belem, Brazil.
